LA GRANGE – The North Oldham Little League Senior softball all-stars fell just short in their quest for a state title Monday, falling to Adair County 10-5 at Walsh Park.
Adair County took the lead 2-0 in the second inning before the North stars came back to score two of their own in the third after Paige Whittaker reached on an error and Kelly Vogel tripled. Vogel scored off a fielder’s choice off the bat of Kara Stinson.
Adair County, however, came back to break the game open with six runs in the fourth inning.
Adair County loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a popup that fell in safely behind the pitcher’s mound as three North players converged, but failed to make the catch.
A single up the middle made it 4-2 as North starting pitcher Madi Smith gave way to Vogel on the mound.
Vogel gave up a line drive single to center to increase the Adair County lead to 6-2. The final two runs scored on a single to center and a double to left field.
North cut it to 8-5 in the fifth when Danielle Heid led off with a single followed by a walk to Vogel and a single to left from Brittany Heid.
Stinson cleared the bases with a double down the left field line to cut the lead to 8-5.
North loaded the bases when Jessica Reinbold singled and Smth reached on an error, but Adair County regrouped as its pitcher struck out the next three batters to end the inning and stop the rally.
Adair County scored one run in the fifth and sixth inning for the final margin and will advance to the regional tournament in South Bend, Ind. next week.
