GOSHEN – North Oldham played two competitive games against out-of-state teams Monday, but came out on the losing end of both.

The Lady Mustangs were beat 6-4 by Jeffersonville (Ind.) in the first contest and 6-5 by Limestone Community (Ill.) in the nightcap.

The losses were the second and third straight for North (5-5), coming on the heels of a four-game winning streak.

North trailed both games by multiple runs early, only to come back and tie or take the lead before falling late.

“Everyone really played their heart out today,” junior Melissa Martineson said. “There was no dull moment. We all realized that we only have so long to play this game that each game counts.”

North was playing without four starters who were out of town on spring break vacation, coach Erick Anderson said. Because of those absences, the team’s average age Monday was just over 14 years, Anderson added.

“The performance doesn’t dictate age at all,” Anderson said. “The youngest players, when we need them to step up, they made plays.

“We have a good group of ballplayers and we’re very excited for the end of this season.”

In the second game, North fell behind Limestone 4-0 after the top of the third inning before rallying for three runs in its half of the third.

The Lady Mustangs then took a 5-4 lead in the bottom half of the fifth. Bekah Hare reached on an error and then scored on an error, making the score 4-4. Megan Rohrbach scored

North’s fifth run on an RBI single off the bat of Sam Maiocco.

The Rockets responded in the sixth, scoring two runs on an RBI single.

The Lady Mustangs had a chance to tie in the seventh when Mikayla Benson hit a one-out double. But an Anna Maiocco fly ball and Sam Maiocco strikeout ended the game.

North fell behind 3-0 in the first game before rallying for a three-run sixth inning to tie the game 3-3.

The Lady Mustangs scored all three runs on a Hannah Dugan triple.

But Jeffersonville scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to get back ahead.

The Lady Mustangs will meet Fairdale at 4 p.m. Thursday at Southern High School.
