Despite squaring off with 24 other teams in the Woodford County Invitational in Versailles Dec. 15, the North Oldham swim team put up impressive numbers, claiming third as a team.
The boys did particularly well, grabbing third, led by Arseniy Semenov and Luc Brazeau. Semenov grabbed a win in the boys 100 free and a runner-up finish in 200 IM, while Brazeau managed a second place showing in the 100-yard backstroke and a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
Senior Erik Krohn was another key contributor to the boys team, grabbing eighth place in the boys’ 200 free and ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Yoni Smolyar also recorded top 10 finishes in both the 500-yard free (fifth) and the 100-yard butterfly (10th) and Danny Williams and Ben Tucker finished in seventh and 10th in the 200-yard IM and 50 free, respectively. Mark Scherer and Clayton Helsley also finished in third and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke.
The girls team grabbed fourth place with Anne Scherer leading the way with runner up showings in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.
Emma Brazeau was also an important piece of the puzzle, grabbing a second place finish in the 100-yard breastroke and a fourth place finish in the 100-yard IM. Alexis Sander and Rachel Scherer also recorded top 10 finishes for North Oldham, claiming sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.
