Entering the opening round of Monday night’s 8th Region tournament, the North Oldham volleyball carried themselves like they expected to return to the state tournament. Their play against Walton-Verona did little to temper that fire as they got on the gas early and never let up, cruising 3-0.
After coming out strong with a quick 6-1 run to open the match, the Mustangs weathered a Bearcats run midway through the game before opening up for a comfortable 25-15 win.
That momentum carried over into game two as North asserted themselves early with 10 unanswered points to open play. From there, they added to their lead with a 15-5 run, taking the second game 25-5.
The third game proved to be the toughest for North as Walton-Verona matched them serve for serve through the opening 20 points. That didn’t last though as the Mustangs’ depth won out to propel them 25-15.
