North Oldham made its deepest postseason run in school history in 2013, winning Region 8 and beating Central Hardin in the semi-state round before falling to Bowling Green in the state quarterfinals.
The Mustangs featured several talented scorers but advanced through the postseason on the strength of its defense.
Goalkeeper Seth Junion was named first team all-state, with defenders Sam Kelly and Ben Stinebruner named as honorable mentions.
The anchor of that defense was another first-team selection, defensive midfielder Jad Vicich.
Vicich controlled the midfield for North, making strong tackles to stop opposing offenses and winning balls to start counter-attacks.
The senior was never better than in the Region 8 tournament, for which he was named MVP.
Vicich helped North shut Carroll County, Collins and South Oldham out in each game of the Mustangs’ region run.
“His physicality is really unmatched by most teams,” coach Chad Niedert said after a 1-0 win against South in the region title game. “...You take him out of any game and we’re not the same team.”
