North Oldham coach Tony Zeppa did some lineup shuffling during the small-school sectional duals Saturday in Louisville.

For the Mustangs’ pool match against Franklin County, he bumped Colin Portman up to the 195-pound class, Josh Hill to the 182-class, Mitch Rusch to the 170.

The shuffling paid off as all three won and North advanced to the sectional finals.
“We jockeyed the lineup a little bit to win our pool,” Zeppa said.

The Mustangs also beat Shawnee during pool play. They fell 55-24 to Moore in the finals, but still clinched a spot in next month’s small-school state duals with a second place finish.

With a young team that features only one senior, Rusch, in its regular starting lineup, Zeppa said he was glad to be in the small-school state finals, also to take place Feb. 1 in Mt. Sterling.

“I think we’ll fare well,” Zeppa said. “There are a number of schools I feel are stronger than us but I think we’ll be in the middle of the pack. If the boys all come together and wrestle well then maybe we can do better.”
