Metro United Way announced Sept. 5 it has approved seed funding for Oldham County’s Hope Health Clinic.
The clinic is scheduled to open in September and provide access to quality, affordable health care to the uninsured in Carroll, Henry, Oldham and Trimble counties.
Funding for the amount of $20,000 is being awarded to the Oldham County Ministerial Association, which is the governing body for the Hope Health Clinic.
Rick Davidson, board chair of Hope Health Clinic, said Metro United Way has provided constant encouragement.
“Their support has motivated others to move forward with their support of the clinic. Metro United Way also played a critical role with their financial investment in this project,” he said.
When the community care clinic serving Oldham County closed in February 2011, county leaders came together to discuss how to meet the critical medical needs of uninsured persons in the region.
Through this community process, the Oldham County Ministerial Association stepped forward to provide organizational leadership and the community has rallied to design a sustainable model of care.
Marsha Biven, assistant vice president of Baptist Hospital Northeast, said from the beginning of this community’s effort to rally support to re-open a clinic for the uninsured, Metro United Way has been an active and encouraging partner.
The funding moves the clinic significantly along with the initial funding needed to open.
The Hope Health Clinic will be available to serve as a healthcare home for the 19,196 uninsured residents of Carroll, Oldham, Henry and Trimble counties. The clinic will provide care for acute and chronic illness, specialty and follow up will provided through a network of participating providers at an affordable rate.
Medical care will be provided through a network of local volunteer doctors and nurse practitioners on an appointment only basis.
The clinic also received a $2,500 donation from La Grange Rotary on Aug. 30.
Hope Health Clinic’s mission is a community-wide ministry seeking to provide quality health care in a Christ-honoring environment to those who lack alternative healthcare solutions.
The Hope Health Clinic will be located in the same building as the previous clinic, behind Baptist Hospital Northeast at 1205 Sanibel Way in La Grange.
The office has six exam rooms, a lab, waiting rooms and an office area, and will be equipped with medical supplies from the hospital. The hospital will lease space to the clinic for $1 per year.
