 Oldham students accepted to Air Force Academy

Six students from Oldham County have recently been awarded appointments to the United States Air Force Academy. Three students graduating from South Oldham High School will attend the academy, as well as two from Oldham County High School. Sam Murphy, a 2010 graduate of SOHS was nominated to the academy by Congressman Geoff Davis. He also received a nomination to West Point Academy from Sen. Jim Bunning. While at SOHS, Sam participated on the soccer and swim teams. He is the co-captain of the inaugural lacrosse team at the school. He was also a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, ski club and a member of St. John United Methodist Church. He was also awarded Air Force and Army ROTC scholarships. Tyler Lewis also accepted an appointment to the Air Force Academy. Lewis graduated from SOHS in 2009. For the past 10 months, Tyler has been attending the Service Academy Preparatory  program at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala.  He will leave for the Air Force Academy June 23. Nick Gibson, a 2010 SOHS graduate, and Rachel Cranfill, a 2010 OCHS graduate, were accepted to the academy. Maddie Moore, a 2009 graduate of OCHS was accepted as well. – Submitted text and photos
