A La Grange man who allegedly shot his girlfriend with a pistol in February has entered a not guilty plea.

Jason Cornett, 38, faces an assault charge after police say he shot his 22-year-old girlfriend, Ashley Frankrone. According to the police report, Cornett shot Frankrone in her side while he was handling two single-action revolvers in his home.

Frankrone received medical treatment at Baptist Hospital Northeast just after the shooting. Emergency crews later moved her to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Cornett’s charges include second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment. He was indicted by an Oldham County grand jury earlier this month.

He pleaded not guilty in Oldham circuit court July 24 . His next court appearance is scheduled Sept. 24.

Under conditions of his bond, Cornett is prohibited from use of alcohol or drugs and is not permitted to contact Frankrone.
