More than $2,000 was raised Saturday for 7-year-old MacKindsey Walker, who was diagnosed in September with an inoperable tumor on her brain stem. Doctors say the cancer is rare and almost always terminal.
Walker has undergone experimental radiation treatment at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. "She seems like she's responding to the treatments a little bit," said Steve Tingle, a family friend. Walker appeared briefly Saturday night at La Grange Elementary School, where the fundraiser was held in her honor. Although she's weak, she was able to walk on her own, Tingle said. Physical therapy could improve her condition some, he said. All of the contributions from the fundraiser will help Walker's family with medical bills and transportation expenses. Donations can be made to the MacKindsey Walker Trust at National City Bank, La Grange branch. Donation jars have been placed Cornerstone Cafe, Marathon Food Mart in Buckner, Texican's BBQ, Keith's Hairport, two Steve O's Italian Kitchen locations and Sandless Tanning in La Grange.
