Light up La Grange bigger than ever

-A A +A
By The Staff

This year’s 26th annual Light Up La Grange will feature more lights than ever before – almost doubling last year’s animated display on the courthouse lawn.

For the second year, Mike and Vonnie Glover are heading up the design — this year with more than 160,000 lights.

Discover Downtown La Grange is hosting the annual “Light Up LaGrange” kickoff at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, and Santa and the Mayor arrive in town to light the courthouse square and all of Main Street.

This year’s Light Up La Grange also offers new features, like a mini-train ride that provides rides around town for adults and kids.

Visitors can enjoy activities from the La Grange Community Center and the Oldham County History Center and Rob Morris Chapel to the shops on Main near Cedar. La Grange Fire and Rescue is returning to their previous home on Main and Second that night to offer a chili dinner and music.

Oldham County musicians and singers will perform on the courthouse lawn as well as on Walnut Street at Main.

As usual, Santa will entertain the kids and their holiday wishes at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn.

Santa normally sees about 300 children per year between 7 and 9 p.m. — arrive early.

Last year, about 5,000 people visited La Grange last year to see the music and lights designed and built by the Glovers.

They have changed the music and lighting arrangements for a new look this year. They will offer this synchronized music-and-light show daily through Dec. 25.
