Markitha Arnold, business manager for the Oldham County Public Library, was the winner of the 2007 Margaret S. Duvall Employee Excellence Award. She was surprised with the award during the library’s holiday party in December while her husband and fellow library employees looked on. “Markitha’s dedication to the library in 2007 was evident in everything she did,” said Susan Eubank, library director, “and the board felt she should be recognized for her considerable efforts. Although the public rarely meets the administrative staff because we are behind the scenes and working offsite in the offices in Buckner, the office staff keeps things rolling along and has the same dedication to the library’s service ethic.” Arnold is the 14th OCPL employee to win the award, which has been given out since 1991. It is named for Margaret S. Duvall, who was employed by the Oldham County Public Library from 1975 to 1989, to honor her commitment to literacy and outstanding library service. “It is really quite humbling when I consider how many of the staff deserves recognition for what they do both for the public and their fellow staff members,” Arnold said. “I’m probably one of the few employees who still remember Margaret Duvall. She was a terrific lady and a shining example for all of us to follow.” Arnold has been a library employee since 1985.
