State needs increased tobacco taxTo the editor: I am so frustrated by our legislators bowing to the tobacco companies and cigarette retailers. Our state needs revenue. We don’t want our children to start smoking. Here is a chance for our representatives to do good on two different fronts. They can make a real impact on lowering our smoking rates and increasing our revenues by increasing the tax on tobacco products by $1 a pack or more. It is amazing to me that the “accepted” level of tax increase of 30 cents or less is what is being considered.
