Brentwood returns to plannersTo the editor:Brentwood plans are back on the docket and are no better, if not worse, than two plans denied previously. Plans show a 345-home subdivision with a large boulevard to connect Clore Lane to Spring Hill Trace. This road will serve as a thoroughfare between Ky. 22 and old Ky. 329 where thousands of cars per day are expected. Our concern is that the developers have no regard for surrounding neighborhoods. When asked why they didn’t have any homes along the boulevard, developers responded that it was for safety reasons. Did they not consider that their “beautiful boulevard” feeds down to a two-lane subdivision street with no sidewalks that runs adjacent to homes, a clubhouse and pool that numerous adults and children walk, ride bikes and skateboard to? What about our safety?Keep in mind; this is not just a one-neighborhood issue. This new traffic pattern will also cause increased traffic through other subdivisions such as Summerfield and Arbor Ridge by people looking for ways around the congestion that will be built up at Spring Hill Trace and the 329 bypass/old 329 intersections. We ask that planning and zoning consider these infrastructure issues and address them accordingly rather than creating more problems to be fixed later. We urge everyone to voice their disapproval of developers that disregard safety of neighborhoods and cause more traffic nightmares in the area by contacting our magistrates, commissioners and appearing at the hearing on Tuesday. While we realize the need for development in the area, it should be done responsibly, without negatively impacting the surrounding areas. The Arts on the Green show was truly, as always, a jewel in the crown for our city and its residence. Once again you have turned a bright spotlight on what the City of La Grange has to offer Oldham County in the way of a truly unique experience for visitors. The importance of community events as a way to build great places to live, work and play can never be overstated. The organization’s hard work and commitment to Arts on the Green shows not only a love for the fine arts but a love for the community you are a member of.Thanks again for a great show and lots of fun.Bill Lammlein,Discover Downtown La GrangeCounselor, friends helped honor Megan LucasTo the editor:In response to last week’s editorial on “Graduation should provide tribute,” I want to thank you for remembering Megan. She did not get to graduate with her senior class and we, her parents, were not allowed to receive her diploma for her. We are grateful, however, that we could still allow Megan to be part of this special day. It was a day she so looked forward to, like any other senior. It was completely appropriate that she was included, and that her classmates were able to pay tribute. To not be allowed to have that expression would be unfair and inconsiderate, and isn’t the lost of a young life unfair enough? For anyone to have to think about that shouldn’t be an issue.I also feel it is so important to give credit where credit is due. Many thanks to Tara Steedly, Megan’s counselor at Oldham County High School, for helping to make sure Megan was part of this day. I know Meg was smiling down from heaven! And many thanks to Megan’s friends and classmates — your kind words, love and support have meant a lot to us. You have a special place in our hearts and we wish the best for each of you!Lori Lucas,La Grange
