To the editor:
On Aug. 17, I needed to utilize the services of the South Oldham Fire Department and Oldham County EMS.
The reason why is not important. What is important is the quality of services provided by the staff.
Initially I wanted my wife to drive me to the emergency room, but on the way, it soon became apparent that I needed immediate assistance. We stopped at the South Oldham Fire station to seek help.
That was one of the best decisions we ever made.
The staff’s response was immediate, calm, very caring, well-organized and highly professional.
Firefighters and EMTs tended to me while another crew member spoke with my wife for information on my medical background.
What impressed me, besides their medical knowledge, was the calm, warm manner by which they conducted themselves all the while working to maintain my medical stability.
This was reassuring to not only me but to my wife as well.
Once we reached the hospital’s emergency entrance and they wheeled me into the room, I assumed that would be the last I’d see of them.
They had completed their task and very well.
But before they left, crew members reentered the room to wish me luck, which gave me the opportunity to thank them once again.
Their simple gesture of returning to the room meant a great deal to me.
Too often these days the human touch is forgotten — but not that day and not by them.
My reason for writing this letter was to try to say more than just a thank you as that seems so inadequate.
I also thought it important to voice to the community how fortunate we are in Oldham County to have such highly-qualified professionals manning our emergency services.
Our community is truly blessed to have such unsung heroes who go about their duties day in and day out seemingly unnoticed until their services are needed.
Once again, thanks to each and every one of you,
Carl and Sandra Davis
