Although I (proudly) finished 98 percent of my holiday shopping weeks ago, I still have a few things to pick up this week. Of course, a couple of those are gift cards, which don't really count — but the others are gifts for those impossible-to-buy-for people in my life.
Fortunately, The Era office is just a block away from some great shops on Main Street in La Grange. I love how unique the offerings are and how much of it is made locally.
I've found goregous ornaments at Gallery 104, cute scarves at Friends & Fiber and locally-authored books at Karen's. Not to mention all the craft supplies I might need for holiday projects at La Grange Arts & Crafts.
Several new businesses have opened in downtown La Grange, so if you haven't been in a while, it might look a bit different. Don't forget, there are a bunch of places to eat, too.
Many of these stores are offering extended holiday hours this season, including staying open later during the Light Up La Grange lightshow. (Check it out nightly Friday through New Year's Eve, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; 6:30 on Fridays.)
If you've got a few gifts to go, skip the mall and come to Main Street. The parking is better, the people are nicer and you're sure to find that perfect present.
