La Grange residents face fire tax

-A A +A
By Laura Hagan

La Grange residents will likely see an extra fee on next year’s tax bill for a service they’re already paying for.

For more than 20 years, the city of La Grange has operated a joint fire department with the La Grange Fire Protection District. Part of the city’s real estate tax funds the department, at no extra cost to city residents.

Officials from the La Grange and Ballardsville fire protection districts hope to annex the city and collect eight to 10 cents per $100 of assessed property from homeowners beginning in 2009.
