A La Grange man has been arrested and charged with indecent exposure after police found him masturbating in a school parking lot.

Jon Eric Selby, 44, was arrested on Jan. 31 on charges of indecent exposure, alcohol intoxication and criminal trespassing after being found watching pornography and masturbating in the parking lot of Crestwood Elementary, according to a police report.

When an officer approached Selby’s car around 10 a.m. that morning, he found Selby reclined in the front seat watching pornography on his phone, according to the report.

The report said Selby admitted to drinking vodka earlier that morning and police found an empty alcohol bottle in his back seat.

Students from Crestwood Elementary witnessed police in the parking lot with Selby roughly 100 yards away, due to a fire drill happening that day, according to the police report and a letter sent home to parents by interim principal Diane Morgan.

“The vehicle in question was parked a significant distance away from Crestwood Elementary, near the Arts Center,” Tracy Harris, Director of Communications for Oldham County Schools said in a statement. “We thank the continuous diligence of our school resource officers and all our local police in their constant efforts to monitor school property and ensure the safety of our students.”

A press release was issued by the Oldham County Police Department on Feb. 11 after several inquiries were made, according to Major Jim Laytham.

OCPD only issues press releases on cases that involve criminal charges unless inquiries are made, Laytham said.

Selby was charged with misdemeanors so this incident was not published in OCPD’s daily activity report on their website and a press release was not imediately issued, Laytham said.

Selby was booked and released on a $500 unsecured bond, under conditions he avoid Oldham County Schools property. Selby’s original court date was Feb. 10, but was rescheduled to Feb. 19.
