A La Grange man acquitted of a 1984 killing to which he was linked by DNA evidence is sentenced to 24 years in prison on a related robbery charge.

An Indiana judge sentenced Kevin Mark Weeks, 44, Friday to a lengthy term even though a jury acquitted Weeks in the beating death of 89-year-old Loretta Keith of West Terre Haute, Ind.

Weeks’ attorney has said she plans to appeal the robbery conviction.

Weeks had been convicted of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Tests on a bloody nylon stocking from the crime scene found DNA from Weeks.

Another man, David Lee Scott, was convicted in 1985 in Keith’s slaying after he was secretly recorded confessing to the killing. Scott spent more than 23 years in prison before being released in January.
