Kentuckiana celebrated Sunday after the tallies of donations came out for the 61st Annual WHAS Crusade for Children, and in Oldham County, the La Grange Fire Department got a special pat on the back.
The La Grange Fire Department received a plaque from the Crusade for collecting over $1 million. This year, their donations went up 19 percent from 2013, a total of $32,683.08 donated.
The largest total from county fire department came from South Oldham Fire, who collected more than $42,000.
Several other fire departments raised more than $20,000 for the Crusade this year while Westport raised $1,000.
The Crusade has raised $160 million for children with special needs over 61 years. One hundred percent of all donations go to grants, schools and hospitals to help better the lives of the children and their families.
