South Oldham’s Drew Froehlich had just one thing to tell rival Morgan Franklin as the duo walked off the final green at Nevel Meade golf course on Sept. 13. Though the Oldham County golfer had just handed Froehlich a loss during the final round of the Oldham Cup, he just wanted Franklin to know he’d be ready should they ever meet again.

He almost got the chance to find out.

Taking to Charlie Vettiner golf course in the regional tournament, Franklin and Froehlich each posted a 76s to push into a seventh-place tie with a state tournament berth on the line.

With a few groups still on the course it looked like it might come down to a playoff to decide who made the trip to Bowling Green

“He was sort of telling me he wanted revenge,” Franklin said with a smile. “But I told him it wasn’t going to happen.”

That wasn’t an issue though as the final scores entered weren’t enough to challenge for a spot.

So instead of squaring off for the chance to compete, the pair will now have the challenge of representing the county in their first trip to state

They’ll have their hands full on a course that promises to be long and challenging.

Regardless of what happens though, both agreed that just getting the chance to make the trip was special enough.

It’s only fitting they’ll that chance together.

Both Franklin and Froehlich will tee off at 7:18 a.m. Friday as part of the same group.
