Joseph Brock Stearns, 63, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012.
He was born Aug. 6, 1948, and grew up in La Grange on his family farm.
He was the son of the late Dr. Joseph Tipton Stearns, DVM and Winnifred Brock Stearns.
He was a graduate of Oldham County High School and the University of Kentucky.
He was proprietor and owner of the High on Rose bar and restaurant in Lexington during the 1970s. Kentucky poets, writers and musicians performed at High on Rose which was also the first restaurant in Lexington to offer Mexican cuisine as well as local Kentucky favorites such as the Doc Burger and Winn’s Rueben.
Survivors include his sisters, Nancy Stearns (Jim) Theiss and Susan Stearns (Joe) Wolfe; nieces, Dana Harmer, the late Sara Belle Suzanne Papp and Jessie Theiss (Denny)Gray; nephew, Jimmy Dan Theiss; and many friends and cousins.
The family is especially grateful to Joe’s extended family and Dave Merritt, who was of great support for Joe during the past few years.
Joe loved to write, read and listen to music. He was a story teller who was a great observer of human behavior. He enjoyed the art of conversation and could always make strangers smile and laugh.
Services are 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Oldham County History Center, 106 N. Second St. with a reception to immediately follow. All are welcome to attend.
The body was cremated.
A private burial will take place at Cave Hill Cemetery.
