I-71 callers help police apprehend DUI-suspected driver

Massachusetts man's actions behind the wheel prompted drivers to contact KSP, Oldham County Police

Drivers traveling southtbound on Interstate 71 recently helped police locate a Massachusetts man allegedly driving carelessly and under the influence.

Dispatchers from Kentucky State Police Post 5 and Oldham County Dispatch said several callers reported a careless driver traveling I-71 southbound through Henry and Oldham counties around 7 p.m. Nov. 13.

Oldham County Police watched I-71 southbound for a vehicle matching the description – a 2007 orange Honda Fit – and witnessed the driver changing lanes without signal and driving close to vehicles in front of him.

Police arrested Sean P. Clancy, 28, of Chatham, Mass., on charges of failure to signal, careless driving, possession of an open alcoholic beverage and DUI.

Police found six empty and six unopened Budweiser cans in Clancy’s vehicle.

He is scheduled to appear in Oldham district court for arraignment Dec. 15.
