An honor to perform

Several members of the Oldham County High School Symphonic Band were recently honored as members of the All-5th District Bands, University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University Honors bands and the 2009 Kentucky All-State Bands. Forty-eight OCHS band members were selected by audition to perform with the All-District bands conducted by Dr. Greg Byrne from UofL and Joseph Stites from WKU. The bands performed Jan. 10 at the University of Louisville School of Music.   Nine OCHS students performed Jan. 17 in the UofL Honors bands, and 13 students were selected for the WKU Honors Band Clinic the following weekend. Twelve band members performed in the Kentucky All-State Bands Feb. 7 under the direction of Samuel Hazo and Dr. Stephen Peterson. Students from OCHS were Ashley Jackson and Erica Barfield, flute; Kevin McKeel and Katie Holder, clarinet; Brittani Simpson and Megan Townsend, bass clarinet; Jon Louden and Chad Ward, trumpet; McKenna Hynes, horn; Sean Kruer, trombone; Chris Dye, euphonium; and Thomas Whittaker, tuba.  The OCHS Symphonic Band will present their annual Festival Concert at 7:30 p.m. March 19 in the newly-renovated OCHS auditorium. Joining the band for this performance are the OCMS bands under the direction of Anthony Wise. Each ensemble will perform their festival program in preparation for the KMEA Performance Assessment event March 24 and 25 at the Oldham County Arts Center. The public is invited to attend. There is no admission charge. The OCHS band is under the direction of Brad Rogers and Kevin Cox.
