The Oldham County Historical Society will be celebrating its 13th Annual Gala on Friday, Sept. 26 to the theme of a Boogie Woogie Ball straight from the World War II era. Black Tie, Supper Club or World War II era attire is optional for this evening of entertainment on the spacious tented grounds of the Oldham County History Center located at 106 N. Second Ave. in La Grange.
This annual fundraiser is vitally important to the society, as it helps fund maintenance costs and many programs and exhibits provided at the Oldham County History Center. The evening will begin will an open bar and appetizers at 6:30 p.m., music by Sizzle, silent and live auctions and a catered dinner by Ladyfingers Catering.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of the J. Chilton Barnett Champion of Oldham County History Award. This award honors a current or former resident of Oldham County who, in the opinion of the Board of the Historical Society, has demonstrated a sincere interest in Oldham County history and a desire to preserve that history for future generations. This year’s recipient is World War II veteran Dr. E. Bruce Heilman.
An Oldham County native, Heilman has been Chancellor at the University of Richmond since 1988 after having served as President and Chief Executive Officer for 16 years. A Marine “once and always” he is the National Spokesman for The Greatest Generation Foundation. In recent years Heilman has rediscovered his passion for motorcycles and has traveled to 49 states since his 83rd birthday, five years ago.
The 2014 honorary chair for the Gala is Deana Epperly Karem, Executive Director of Oldham County Chamber & Economic Development. The Signature Sponsor for the 2014 Annual Gala is Hardscuffle, Inc. Cost of tickets is $125 per person. To make reservations call (502) 222-0826.
