Despite the drizzle and chill Saturday morning, over 100 people attended the first Oldham County Hike ‘n’ Bike event on Commerce Parkway.

Organized by the Leadership Oldham County class of 2011, the event encouraged people of all ages and fitness levels to enjoy the Greenways trail and health-related vendors.

Baptist Hospital Northeast donated 150 free children’s bicycle helmets, and the Leadership Class raffled off a bicycle they donated. Although the crowd could have been larger, organizers were pleased with the turnout.

“Everybody was just absolutely happy to be out here,” said David Torstrick, an alumnus of the 2011 class.

The bicycle was won by a 20-month-year-old baby, Elizabeth Lay, who “already loves bicycling with her dad,” according to her parents.

Organizers are working on plans for next year’s event.
