An 11-year dream became reality June 24, at least, part of it did.
La Grange Mayor Elsie Carter and Oldham County Judge-Executive Duane Murner, above, are among many who celebrated cutting the ribbon on the first section of the Oldham County Greenways.
The section stretches from the Oldham County Public Library in La Grange 1.2 miles down Commerce Parkway.
The asphalt has been down for a couple weeks and in steady use, Oldham County Planning and Development Director Louise Allen said, but was painted a few hours before the ceremony.
Crews started work on the next 1.8 mile section the following day.
The full bike and pedestrian trail will be 13 miles, stretching from La Grange to Anchorage.
“It really seems more like reality today than any day before,” Deputy Judge-Executive Paula Gish said.
