This week Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana launched a significant redesign of its website, gskentuckiana.org. The redesign includes a streamlined homepage, as well as a stronger focus on using new content management tools to keep information up-to-date.
One major improvement on the site is an upgraded registration process for programs, trainings and events. Serving more than 22,000 girl members and 6,700 adults members and volunteers across 64 counties, GSK typically posts hundreds of events a year online that require registration. Making it fast and easy for users to sign up for these activities is crucial.
A second major improvement is a new online Girl Scout shop that makes it easier to order, track and make wish lists for items. Featuring everything from uniforms and badges to craft kits and gift items the online shop is popular with girls and families, volunteer leaders and community friends and supporters. One hundred percent of the profit from every purchase benefits girls in the Kentuckiana council.
Perhaps just as important as what users see on the new site are the new content management tools in place behind-the-scene to make sure information stays current. Fifteen staff have been trained as content managers so they can add and update information in key site sections. In comparison, just two staff controlled content for the old site.
“A good website is all about timely, relevant and useful information,” said Lora Tucker, CEO of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, as she joined staff and volunteers to cut the ribbon for the new site. “Our new site represents an investment in girls and a commitment to effective communications as part of our mission to build girls of courage, character and confidence.”
