A bright chestnut horse with Goshen connections has been receiving nationwide attention from handicappers who will try to pick the Kentucky Derby winner on Saturday.
For the second weekend in a row, despite uncooperative weather and a sloppy surface, Shackleford has awed spectators with his stellar five furlong works – the fastest reported times of any of the Derby contender for that distance.
And last Saturday, Shackleford shaved two seconds off his time from the previous week – 1:00.20 to 58.83.
In a two-minute race, that’s a big deal.
