RICHMOND – Former Oldham County High School standout Brandon Gathof was one of six Eastern Kentucky University football players named to the 2007 Sports Network All-America team. Gathof, a junior safety was named to the third team.The Colonels were the only Ohio Valley Conference squad to have multiple members on the top three teams.The 6-foot-2, 204-pound Gathof, a two-time first team All-OVC honoree, led the Colonels with 59 solo tackles and tied for second on the team with five interceptions.Against Richmond in the 2007 NCAA playoffs, the safety posted a career-high 13 tackles. The native of La Grange also played a significant role in the win at Austin Peay on Nov. 10, with two interceptions and six tackles.EKU finished the 2007 season 9-3 overall and 8-0 in the OVC to earn the program’s 19th conference title.The Colonels advanced to the NCAA playoffs for a record 18th time and posted a winning record for the 30th consecutive year.Gathof was an all-conference pick for the second year in a row for the Colonels.He was named the OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week in a 28-14 win over Austin Peay when he intercepted two passes including one inside the EKU red zone. He also had six tackles and added a pass break-up. At OCHS, Gathof was a two-way standout playing safety on defense and as a running back/receiver for the Colonels.He was also a starter on a regional championship basketball team and three-year varsity regular in that sport.
