Gathof makes OVC preseason team

When: Friday.

Where: Eastern Kentucky University.

What: Former Oldham County High School star Brandon Gathof of La Grange has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference preseason first-team as a safety.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Gathof was a first-team all OVC pick last year and three-time conference defensive player of the week helping the Colonels to the conference crown.

Gathof led the team with 59 solo tackles and had five interceptions last season.

Parks department hosts football contest

When: Sept. 14.

Where: Oldham County Youth Football complex, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a punt, pass and kick competition at 1 p.m. Sept. 14.

The competition is open to boys and girls 8 to 15 years old.

The top scorer in all age divisions from each ocal competition from each of the boys’ and girls’ divisions will advance to the Sectional Competition. For information, call 225-0655.

SOLL accepting fall ball signups

When: Aug. 22 deadline.

Where: South Oldham Little League, Crestwood.

What: The South Oldham Little League is taking registration for fall baseball including machine pitch leagues.

Cost is $65. To register, go to the league’s Web site at www.sobaseball.org.

Outrage hosts softball tryouts

When: Aug. 16.

Where: Wendell Moore Park, Bucker.

What: The Oldham County Outrage select softball team will hold tryouts for its Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 teams on Aug. 16 at Wendell Moore Park.

Tryouts will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the Under-10 group, from 11:30 .am. to 1 p.m. for the Under-12 and from 1 p.m to 3 p.m. for the Under-14 players.

Parks taking registration for adult volleyball leagues

When: Oct. 1.

Where: Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department will open registration for adult mens and coed volleyball leagues Oct. 1.

League play begins in January at Oldham County Middle School.

Parks accepting youth hoops signups

When: Sept. 1.

Where: Oldham County Parks and Receation Department, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its youth basketball program through November.

The season includes up to eight games plus a season-ending tournament or jamboree for boys in first through eighth grades and girls in first through sixth grades. Cost is $45 per child before Nov. 14 and $55 after. All practices and games are held on Saturdays beginning in January. Coach your child’s team and receive a $10 discount on registration.

SOHS X-country sets practice times

When: 7 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Where: Tom Sawyer State Park.

What: The South Oldham High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams will practice at 7 a.m. at Tom Sawyer Park Monday through Friday until the start of school.
