TENNIS: Quigley will play in charity match

When: July 25.

Where: Home of Mark and Sarah Hyland, 7500 Briarwood Drive, Crestwood.

What: Four-time state high school tennis champion Eric Quigley will play a charity exhibition match against future University of Kentucky teammate Bruno Agostinelli at 7 p.m. July 25 at the home of Mark and Sarah Hyland, 7500 Briarwood Drive, Crestwood.

The event will benefit the Apple Patch community. There will be raffles and a few silent auction items that include retired Prince tennis racquets autographed by Quigley. There is no admission fee but donations to Apple Patch will be appreciated. Light refreshments will be available.

The rain date is 7 p.m. July 27.

BASEBALL: Oldham Aces vs. Morehead

Score: 12-10 Aces.

When: Monday.

Where: North Oldham High School.

Key players: The Ace’s Jordan Ellis, Matt Dearmond and Daniel Pulliam.

Game highlights: The Aces got off to a fast start, scoring five runs in the first inning and two more in the second, then held off a Morehead comeback to win.

Matt Dearmond had a big bat for the Aces with two hits and four RBIs while Daniel Pulliam had two hits and three RBIs. Jordan Ellis came through with three hits including a double and drove in two runs. Ellis also sacrificed in a run. Mike Davis and Preston Theiss had doubles for the Aces.

Oldham Aces vs. Terre Haute

Score: 7-2 Terre Haute.

When: Saturday.

Where: Bowling Green.

Key players: The Aces’ Mike Davis and Preston Theiss. Terre Haute’s Koby Kraemer and Joe Meggs.

Game highlights: The Aces took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning before Terre Haute came back with three runs in the third to go ahead for good.

Aces’ leadoff hitter Mike Davis had a pair of hits while Preston Theiss had a hit and scored a run. Joe Meggs keyed Terre Haute with a two-out, two-run double while Koby Kraemer had a two-run triple.

Oldham Aces vs. Wolfpack

Score: 4-1 Aces.

When: July 3.

Where: Bowling Green.

Key players: The Aces’ Clayton Jones, Jason Sterrett, Preston Theiss and Daniel Pulliam.

Game highlights: The Aces got a pair of doubles from Preston Theiss and a solid outing on the mound from Jason Sterrett to win.

Theiss also scored two runs.

Jones had an RBI double and two singles for a three-hit day and Daniel Pulliam had two hits and drove in a run.

Sterrett went six innings, scattering three hits against two walks and five strikeouts.

Oldham Aces vs. Mustangs

Score: 6-3 Mustangs.

When: July 3.

Where: Bowling Green.

Key players: The Aces’ Mike Davis and Daniel Pulliam. The Mustangs’ Tyler Wheeler and Jon Ribble.

Game highlights: The Mustangs scored four in the top of the seventh then held the Aces scoreless in their last at-bat to score the come-from-behind win.

Mike Davis had a home run and a double and drove in a run for the Aces while Daniel Pulliam had a double and scored a run.

Tyler Wheeler led the Mustangs comeback with a double and three RBIs while Jon Riddle had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

North Oldham vs. Nelson County

Score: 5-3 Nelson County.

When: Saturday.

Where: St. Matthews.

Key players: North Oldham’s Jacob Irwin, Ethan Crabtree, Tanner Hennings and Logan Dunman.

Game highlights: The North Oldham Little League 11-12 year-old All-Stars dropped a tough one in the first game of the District II tourney.

Despite being outhit by North Oldham 10-4, Nelson County managed to build a 5-0 lead thanks to home runs from Austin Lovvorn and Hunter Smith.

Nelson County held the big lead heading into the top of the sixth inning before North Oldham scored three in the sixth.

North started its comeback with a leadoff home run from Ethan Crabtree.

Jack Schaller followed that with a single, advanced on an error and stolen base and then scored from third when Spencer Dean stole second base.

Dean scored the final run when Tanner Hennings singled to right field.

South Oldham vs. St. Matthews National

Score: 9-2 South Oldham.

When: Saturday.

Where: St. Matthews.

Key players: South Oldham’s Jonathan Blair, Matt McGraw, Braden Johnson and Trevor Grady.

Game highlights: The South Oldham Little League 11-12 year-old All-Stars used a seven-run sixth inning keyed by a grand slam home run from Jonathan Blair to win their opener in the district tourney.

Braden Johnson was the winning pitcher, throwing six strong innings, limiting St. Matthews to just four hits while striking out five and walking just two. Blair threw the final inning and set the Nationals down in order. South got a two-run single from Matt McGraw as well as an RBI single from Trevor Grady.

North Oldham vs. Valley Sports

Score: 5-1 North Oldham.

When: Saturday.

Where: St. Matthews.

Key players: North Oldham’s Tyler London, Spencer Dean, Ethan Crabtree and Cody Mason.

Game highlights: North got off to a good start in their second game with four runs in the first three innings. Tyler London, Trett Matthews, Jack Schaller and Logan Dunman all delivered RBIs for North. London, Spencer Dean and Cody Mason all doubled. Winning pitcher Ethan Crabtree threw four strong innings, limiting Valley Sports to just three hits while striking out nine batters. Schaller came in to throw two-innings of no-hit ball and close the game out.

South Oldham vs. Valley Sports

Score: 2-1 Valley Sports.

When: Monday.

Where: St. Matthews.

Key players: South Oldham’s Austin Metcalfe. Valley Sports’ Nick Glass and Darren Wilson.

Game highlights: Valley Sports’ pitching carried the day as Jacob Clair and Darren Wilson combined to throw a two-hitter at South Oldham.

Wilson and Nick Glass carried Valley Sports’ offense as Glass had three hits and Wilson drove in both runs. Austin Metcalfe hit a solo home run for the South stars.

North Oldham hosting fall registration

When: Saturday.

Where: Walsh Park, La Grange.

What: The North Oldham Little League will hold fall baseball signups from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Walsh Park in La Grange.

Baseball, softball and T-ball are offered for players ages four to 12. The cost is $45, For information, go to the league’s Web site at www.northoldhamlittleleague.net.

Travel baseball team tryouts set

When: Sunday and Aug. 9.

Where: Oldham County High School.

What: Tryouts for an Under-14 and an Under-16 baseball travel team will be at 1 p.m. Sunday and at 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at Oldham County High School.
