SWIMMING

Hoskins wins title for Shelby team

When: July 18.

Where: Elizabethtown.

What: John Hoskins, 8, of La Grange, won first place in the Under-8 50-meter butterfly at the Kentucky Long Course Swimming Championships in Elizabethtown. He posted a time of 51:10, a full second ahead of the next competitor.

Hoskins competes for the Shelby County Sharks.

Hoskins also took fifth place in the Under-8 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:41.13 and was sixth in the Under-8 50-meter freestyle with a time of 44:65.

RECREATION

YMCA hosting fall indoor baseball

When: Registration ends Aug. 25.

Where: Indoor sports arena, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County YMCA is hosting fall baseball for boys and girls ages four to five and six to seven at the indoor sports arena. Practices will be structured to work on the basics of hitting, throwing and baserunning.

The season runs Sept. 3 through Oct. 18. The fee is $50 for members and $65 for non-members.

YMCA offering indoor field hockey

When: Registration ends Sept. 2.

Where: Indoor sports arena, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County YMCA is hosting an indoor field hockey league for girls ages six to 11 at the indoor sports arena.

The registration deadline is Sept. 2 and the season runs Sept. 6 through Oct. 18.

The fee is $50 for members and $70 for non-members.

Parks taking registration for volleyball

When: Oct. 1.

Where: Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department will open registration for adult mens and coed volleyball leagues Oct. 1.

League play begins in January at Oldham County Middle School.

Parks accepting youth hoops signups

When: Sept. 1.

Where: Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its youth basketball program through November.

The season includes up to eight games plus a season-ending tournament or jamboree for boys in first through eighth grades and girls in first through sixth grades.

The cost is $45 per child before Nov. 14 and $55 thereafter.

All practices and games are held on Saturdays beginning in January.

Coach your child’s team and receive a $10 discount on your registration fee.

SOLL accepting fall ball registration

When: Registration ends Aug. 22.

Where: South Oldham Little League, Crestwood.

What: The South Oldham Little League is taking registration for fall baseball including machine pitch leagues.

Outrage holding softball tryouts

When: Saturday.

Where: Wendell Moore Park, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Outrage select softball team will hold tryouts for its Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 teams on Aug. 16 at Wendell Moore Park.

Tryouts will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the Under-10 group, from 11:30 .am. to 1 p.m. for the Under-12 and from 1 p.m to 3 p.m. for the Under-14 players. For information, call Steve Leanhart at 432-6993.

Parks hosting football competition

When: Sept. 14.

Where: Oldham County Youth Football League complex, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a punt, pass and kick competition at 1 p.m. Sept. 14. The competition is open to boys and girls 8 to 15 years old.

The top scorer in all age divisions from each local competition from each of the boys’ and girls’ divisions will advance to the sectional competition. For information, call 225-0655.
