South Oldham vs. Shelby County
Score: 73-68 South Oldham.
Where: South Oldham.
Key players: South Oldham’s Drew Kraemer, Chris Schumm, Dylan Gordon and Jacob Adams. Shelby County’s Cache Tomlinson.
Game highlights: The Dragons took the second half for their own, overcoming a four-point deficit to outscore the Rockets 52-43 and score the upset win.
Thanks to reserves Jacob Adams and Chris Schumm, SOHS shot a red-hot 58 percent in the second half with Adams scoring 18 points. Schumm finished with 12 points, 11 of them came in the second half.
“Jacob did a really good job of going to the basket and hit a couple of threes for us,” SOHS coach Steve Simpson said. “Schumm had a really strong second half and was very strong inside.”
Simpson also credited reserve Dylan Gordon for his late first half defense on Shelby’s Cache Tomlinson. While Tomlinson led all scorers with 25 points and hit seven threes, Simpson said Gordon came up with a couple of key stops on him late that allowed SOHS to cut the margin.
The Dragons used 10 players.
“Maybe the best thing was every guy we used scored a basket that meant something,” Simpson said. “We needed this win. It was a real confidence booster.”
