Local players named to all-state team
What: South Oldham High School’s Marissa Williams was named to the first team all-state girls’ soccer team for the West by the Kentucky Soccer Coaches Association.
Williams, a freshman, helped the Lady Dragons to the regional crown with a 16-5-3 record. She scored 14 goals to go with eight assists.
She was joined by teammate Anna Brewer on the second team. Brewer scored 15 goals.
SOHS’ Shelby Thompson was named to the honorable mention team after scoring 11 goals to go with five assists.
North Oldham’s Brianna Simmons was named to the second team and Morgan Burkley was voted to the honorable mention team after they helped the Lady Mustangs to an 11-5-6 record.
Oldham County’s Lauren Boyd was an honorable mention pick after helping the Lady Colonels to a 16-4-2 record. Boyd scored 16 goals to go with five assists.
Parks Department hosting holiday walk
When: Dec. 13.
Where: Wendell Moore Park, Buckner.
What: The Oldham County Parks and Receation Department is hosting the second annual Holiday 2-mile Walk at 9 a.m. Dec. 13 in Wendell Moore Park.
Registration will be accepted by mail, in person, or over the phone by credit card. Registration forms are available at the John W. Black Community Center, online at www.oldhamcounty.net or by fax upon request.
The cost is $10 plus a new unwrapped toy or $15 without a toy. All pre-registered participants will receive an event T-shirt, late registered participants will receive shirts while supplies last.
Donations will be accepted at the John W. Black Community Center. All proceeds and toys will be donated to the Teddy Bear Tree in Oldham County. Last year $265 and two large boxes of toys were donated. The Teddy Bear Tree program is organized by Tri-County Community Action Agency in Oldham County. It raises money and toys for needy children in the county. For information, call 225-0656.
Travel teams seeking players
What: Oldham County High School assistant baseball coach LeRoy Dunn is seeking 25 to 30 players ages 10 to 12 for two under-12 travel baseball teams for the spring and summer. For information, call Dunn at 386-2235.
Thoroughbreds hosting Challenge Cup
When: Jan. 2 to 4.
Where: Oldham County YMCA indoor arena, Buckner.
What: The Oldham County Thoroughbreds soccer program is hosting its three-on-three Challenge Cup Jan. 2 to 4. The cup is open to teams from ages under-9 to adult. The cost is $150 per team and each team is guaranteed three games. The registration deadline is Wednesday. For information, go to the club’s Web site at www.thoroughbredssoccer.com.
Parks taking registration for volleyball
Where: Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department, Buckner.
What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for adult mens and coed volleyball leagues. League play begins in January at Oldham County Middle School. For information, call 225-0655.
Menard makes all-conference team
Where: Centre College, Danville.
What: Former Oldham County High School star Erin Menard has been named to the first team Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference soccer conference. Menard, a senior from La Grange, helped the Lady Colonels to the Division III NCAA tourney and scored a team-high 10 goals this year.
