Oldham Aces vs. Floyds Knobs

Score: 8-6 Floyds Knobs.

When: June 8. 

Where: South Oldham High School. 

Key players: The Aces’ Alex Davidson, Andy Wood and Jordan Ellis. Floyd Knobs’ Neil Fertig.

Game highlights: Floyds Knobs first baseman Neil Fertig hit a three-run homer in the third and a two-run homer in the sixth inning to lift his team to the win over the Aces in the season opener for both teams.

The Aces took a 2-0 lead in the first when Andy Wood singled and stole second. He scored on a double from Alex Davidson. Davidson went on to score on a fielder’s choice from Jordan Ellis.

Fertig put Floyds Knobs up 3-2 with his homer before the Aces came back to go up 4-3 in the fifth. With two outs, Nick DeNise was hit by a pitch and scored on a wild pitch. Wood singled and then scored on another double from Davidson.

Fertig put Floyds Knobs up for good in the sixth with his two-run shot.

The Aces scored one run in the sixth and seventh inning. 

Oldham Aces vs. Floyds Knobs

Score: 6-5 Aces.

When: June 8. 

Where: South Oldham High School. 

Key players: The Aces’ Daniel Pulliam and Andrew Jones. Floyd Knobs’ Tyler Rhodes.

Game highlights: The Aces took the second game of the double header by scoring in the middle innings.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, the Aces scored twice when Blake Ryan reached on an error, Jordan Ellis walked and Jacob Wiese singled to load the bases. Andrew Jones drove in both runs with a double.

The Aces made it 4-1 in the fifth Daniel Pulliam led off with a single and Andy Wood walked.

Both advanced on a groundout before Pulliam scored on a wild pitch. Jordan Ellis singled in Wood.

Floyds Knobs came back to lead 5-4 with a four-run sixth inning keyed by a two-run single from shortstop Tyler Rhodes.

The Aces took the lead for good with two more runs in the sixth. Jones walked and went to third on a single from Alex Sharrard.

Pulliam drove in the game-winner with a two-run double to left.

Winning pitcher Brady Bickers shut down Floyds Knobs in order in the top of the seventh to preserve the win. 



Berry ties for sixth at state amateur

When: June 13. 

Where: Champion Trace Golf Club. 

What: Former Oldham County High School standout Brandon Berry finished tied for sixth place in the Kentucky State Amateur Golf Championship.

Berry, a native of La Grange who plays at Eastern Kentucky University, shot a 73-71-144 to tie for sixth with five other players.

Jordan Blair of Bowling Green won with a 137.

Berry is a former two-time Falls Cities Junior champion and was also a member of two regional basketball title teams at OCHS.


Youth Sports

Oldham Legends hosting tryouts

When: Tuesday and June 25. 

Where: Oldham County Youth Soccer Association complex, Buckner. 

What: The Oldham County Youth Soccer Association is hosting tryouts for the Legends Select program 6-7:30 p.m. June 23 and 25 OCYSA game field complex.

Tryouts are for the Under-11 and Under-14 girls’ teams and the Under-14 boys’ team.

SOLL accepting fall ball registration

When: Immediately. 

Where: South Oldham Little League. 

What: South Oldham Little League is accepting fall ball registration for baseball players ages 6 to 14. The league runs during the month of September. The cost is $65 per child with a $130 maximum per family.
