FOOTBALL

Oldham County vs. Scott County

When: Friday. 

Where: Scott County High School. 

Score: 33-20 Scott County.

Key players: Oldham County’s Kirk Yepko and Corbin Axtell. Scott County’s Josh Walls.

Game highlights: Scott County’s Josh Walls was a one-man show as he rushed for 156 yards and score three times to lead the Cardinals to the win.

The Colonels held a brief lead after scoring on the game’s first possession when Kirk Yepko went over from the seven.

Scott answered immediately with an 11-yard touchdown run from Steven Travis to tie the game.

Walls put Scott County, coached by former OCHS coach Jim McKee, in the lead for good early in the second quarter when he scored on a 60-yard run. A 39-yard field goal from Jay Wilmott put the Cardinals up 17-7 at the half.

Walls broke it open in the third quarter when he scored on a four-yard burst off tackle and then added a 42-yard scoring run as the Cardinals, ranked No. 8 in 6A, took a commanding 30-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Colonels managed to cut the lead with two scores.

Tyler Oldham scored on a 15-yard run and Corbin Axtell added a three-yard dive for a score in the late stages.

The Colonels, 2-3, have the week off before going to cross-county rival South Oldham at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in their district opener.

SOCCER

South Oldham hosting tournament

When: Monday. 

Where: South Oldham High School. 

What: The South Oldham High School boys’ soccer team is hosting its invitational tournament Monday through Oct. 3.

The tourney starts at 6 p.m. Monday with Franklin County taking on Tates Creek followed by Oldham County against West Jessamine.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Ballard will take on Manual followed by SOHS against Providence.

Games will start at 6 p.m. on Sept. 30 and Sept. 31 and run all day Oct. 3 capped by the 7:30 p.m. finals.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lady Dragons hosting tournament

When: Friday. 

Where: South Oldham High School. 

What: The South Oldham High School field hockey team is hosting a tournament Friday and Saturday.

Play starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the SOHS JV against Eastern followed by the SOHS varsity against Eastern.

Play will start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and SOHS will take on Male at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

The Lady Dragons will also play Atherton in the tourney finale at 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

RECREATION

Parks department  hosting skeleton run

When: Oct. 10. 

Where: Wendell Moore Park, Buckner. 

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Skeleton 5K Run and walk at 9 a.m. Oct. 10 in Wendell Moore Park.

The registration fee is $20 and registration will be accepted at 8 a.m. race day.

Parks hosting cornhole tournament

When: Oct. 10. 

Where: Wendell Moore Park, Buckner. 

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a cornhole tournament at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at Wendell Moore Park.

The cost is $40 per team or $50 the day of the tournament.

First prize is $300. All proceeds got to fund trails and maintenance for the Oldham County parks.

Thoroughbreds hosting tryouts

When: Nov. 1. 

Where: Oldham County Youth Soccer Association complex, Buckner. 

What: The Oldham County Thoroughbreds select soccer program will host tryouts for its high school age teams Nov. 1 at the Oldham County Youth Soccer Association complex next to Oldham County Middle School.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m. tryouts for the girls’ Under-15 to Under-18 teams will take place.

From 2:30 to 4 p.m. the Under-15 to Under-18 boys’ teams will tryout.

Simpson hosting fall break camp

When: Oct. 19 to 21. 

Where: South Oldham High School. 

What: South Oldham High School boys’ basketball coach Steve Simpson is offering a fall basketball camp from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 19 to 21.

The camp is open to players in grades 4 to 8. The cost is $30.

It will be staffed by the SOHS coaching staff and current members of the Dragons’ basketball team.
