Oldham edges South in slugfest When: Sunday. Where: Peggy Baker Park, Crestwood. What: Oldham County Middle School edged South Oldham 13-11 in Greater Oldham County Baseball league play Sunday. The Colonels fell behind 3-0 early before scoring four runs in the third inning and six in the fourth to take a 10-6 lead. SOMS came back to tie the game in the fifth inning before OCMS pulled away late. Layman Durbin had a huge day at the plate as he led the Colonels’ potent offense with four RBIs. Bailey Rice, Tyler Caswell and Josh Kincer all drove in two runs for the Colonels. Zach Tyler was the winning pitcher. John Kendall drove in three runs for SOMS and Michael McGee had a pair of RBIs. Davis Culbertson took the loss on the mound for the Dragons. North Oldham beats South Oldham When: Thursday. Where: Peggy Baker Park, Crestwood. What: North Oldham Middle School’s Mike Neely doubled in two runs in the top of the fifth inning to give the Mustangs a 6-5 over South Oldham in Greater Oldham County Baseball league play Thursday. Neely also had a single earlier in the game. Trace Stegman had a double for NOMS and Michael McCarty scored two runs. Sam Spayd was the winning pitcher. Wes Tolsdorf led the SOMS offense with a two-run double during the Dragons’ late inning comeback. John Jones took the loss on the mound. OCHS offering baseball camp When: June 7 to 10. Where: Oldham County High School. What: The Oldham County High School baseball team is hosting a baseball camp for players from kindergarten through eighth-grade from 9 a.m. to noon June 7 to 10. Each player should bring a glove and bat and catchers need to bring their own gear. The camp will feature lectures, drills and game situations. The cost is $65. What: Former South Oldham High School basketball standout Lauren Jones is transferring to Bellarmine University to finish her college career. Jones, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward, played the last two seasons at Austin Peay University. She will be eligible to play next year since she is transferring from a Division I school to a Division II school. Jones averaged 4.5 points and 2.3 rebounds a game last year for the Governors before missing the last half the season with a broken nose. Jones was a four-year starter at SOHS and made the Kentucky All-Star team as a senior. She scored more than 2,100 points in her high school career and led the state in free throw shooting percentage her senior season. Recreation YMCA hosting tennis conditioning When: Saturday. Where: Oldham County YMCA branch, Buckner. What: The Oldham County YMCA is offering a tennis conditioning camp from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Participants should bring their own racket. The cost is $10. YMCA sets lifeguard training sessions When: May 10 to 19. Where: Oldham County YMCA branch, Buckner. What: The Oldham County YMCA is offering lifeguard certification classes May 10 to 19 at the facility’s pool. All participants must be 16 or older. Participants will receive CPR and first aid certification. All participants must be able to swim 500 yards and 100 yards in the sidestroke, front crawl and breaststroke. They must also be able to swim underwater for 15 feet. The cost is $130 for members and $190 for non-members. For information, call 222-9358. YMCA offering youth karate classes When: May 25 to June 17. Where: Oldham County YMCA branch, Buckner. What: The Oldham County YMCA is offering youth karate classes at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays May 25 to June 17. The classes are open to students ages 7 to 12. Uniforms are $25 and are available through the instructor. The registration fee is $45 for members and $55 for non-members. For information, call 222-9358.
