Softball   South Oldham vs. Oldham County Score: 3-0 Oldham County. When: Monday.  Where: Oldham County High School.  Key players: South Oldham’s Alexa Laviena. Oldham County’s Ashley Gilbert, Brooke Leanhart and Kim McElhinny.  Game highlights: OCHS catcher Ashley Gilbert led off the bottom of the first inning with a line drive home run over the left centerfield wall to give the Lady Colonels and winning pitcher Kim McElhinny all the runs they would need. McElhinny won a pitcher’s duel with SOHS’ Alex Laviena as OCHS clinched the top seed in the district tournament. McElhinny went all seven innings giving up four hits against 11 strikeouts and three walks. Laviena also went the distance for SOHS throwing a solid game giving up two hits with 13 strikeouts and two walks. The Lady Colonels, 12-4, added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gilbert started the rally by reaching on a walk and scored on Brooke Leanhart’s two-out, deep double to right center. Leanhart went to third on a bad relay throw and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.    Soccer   Thoroughbreds hosting goalie clinic When: June 17.  Where: Oldham County Youth Soccer  Association complex, Buckner.  What: The Oldham County Thoroughbreds select soccer program is hosting U.S. National team goalie coach Paul Rogers for a one-day clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. June 17 in Buckner. Rogers is a former assistant coach for the University of Louisville women’s team and was also the Thoroughbreds’  goalkeeper coach while in Louisville.  He is the women’s assistant coach at Florida State University. The clinic is open to boys and girls age 11 to 18. The cost is $50. To register, visit www.performancegoalkeeping.com   Thoroughbreds hosting tryouts When: May and June.  Where: Oldham County Youth Soccer  Association complex, Buckner.  What: The Oldham County Thoroughbreds select soccer program will host tryouts for several different teams in May and June for the 2009-10 seasons.  Tryout dates are: • 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday - Academy orientation and signups for Under-8 and Under-9 teams. • 6 to 8 p.m. May 19 and 21 - Under-10 to Under-13 girls. An additional tryout is 6 to 8 p.m. June 1 for Under-12 and Under-13 girls. • 6 to 8 p.m. May 18 and 20 - Under-10 to Under-13 boys. An additional tryout is 6 to 8 p.m. June 2 for Under-12 and Under-13 boys. • 6 to 8 p.m. June 1 and 3 - Under-14 to Under-18 girls. • 6 to 8 p.m. June 2 and 4 - Under-15 to Under-18 girls. For information, call Dale Helfrich at 445-3482.    Cross Country   NOHS cross country sets running camp When: June 9 to 11.  Where: North Oldham High School.  What: The North Oldham High School cross country program will host a Running with the Mustangs cross country camp from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 9 to 11. The camp is open to boys only ages 9 to 14. The cost is $50. Members of the state championship NOHS cross country team will serve as coaches and mentors. There will also be guest speakers including former Kentucky state champion and Marquette All-American Houston Barber, former SOHS coach Brian Elpers, former NOHS coach Steve Rauh and former University of Louisville standout Aaron Smith.
