Soccer Oldham County vs. Lexington Lafayette Score: 3-0 Oldham County. When: Monday. Where: Fayette County Soccer Spectacular, Lexington Tates Creek. Key players: Oldham County’s Jacob Kemper, Jake Weigal, Kyle Krauss and Kevin Marcus. Game highlights: The No. 6 ranked Colonels had no problems in the season opener scoring 40 seconds into the game before going on to a 2-0 halftime lead over the Generals. The Colonels got goals from returning first team all-stater Jacob Kemper, Jake Weigal and Kevin Marcus. Kyle Krauss set the table for the offensive recording two assists. OCHS was scheduled to play Louisville Male in the tourney Wednesday.
Tennis Quigley gains national recognition When: Aug. 18. Where: Pewee Valley. What: Recent South Oldham High School graduate Eric Quigley is featured in the Faces in the Crowd section of the Aug. 18 edition of Sports Illustrated. The Sports Illustrated selection on SI.com includes information on Quigley’s high school career and a short video of Quigley playing in a recent exhibition match. Quigley won his fourth-straight state high school tennis singles title earlier this spring, becoming just the third player in Kentucky history to accomplish four titles. Quigley had a 66-0 record in regular season high school matches and has been ranked No. 5 nationally in his age group. He is attending the University of Kentucky this fall on a tennis scholarship. Football OCYFL hosting preseason Jamboree When: Saturday. Where: Oldham County Youth Football League complex, Buckner. What: The Oldham County Youth Football League is hosting OCYFL Jamboree Day at 9 a.m. Saturday. Pewee teams will scrimmage at 9 a.m. followed by the junior teams at 10 a.m. and a 11 a.m. kickoff for the senior teams. There will also be inflatables, a coaches dunking booth, quarterback challenge and punt, pass and kick contest. Three live bands will be on hand during the day with a drawing for a $100 gas card. Food will be provided by Fascelli’s. The regular season will open Sept. 6. Coaching Opening NOHS seeking softball coach When: Immediately. Where: North Oldham High School. What: North Oldham High School is seeking a head varsity softball coach for next spring. Anyone interested in the position should contact athletic director Tom Clemons at 228-9958. Recreation YMCA hosting fall indoor baseball When: Registration ends Monday. Where: Indoor sports arena, Buckner. What: The Oldham County YMCA is hosting fall baseball for boys and girls ages four to five and six to seven at the indoor sports arena. Practices will be structured to work on the basics of hitting, throwing and base running.The season runs Sept. 3 through Oct. 18. The fee is $50 for members and $65 for non-members. What: The Oldham County YMCA is hosting an indoor field hockey league for girls ages six to 11 at the indoor sports arena. The registration deadline is Sept. 2 and the season runs Sept. 6 through Oct. 18.The fee is $50 for members and $70 for non-members. What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a punt, pass and kick competition at 1 p.m. Sept. 14. The competition is open to boys and girls 8 to 15 years old.
