SOCCER

Vitalis heads locals on all-state teams

When: Monday. 

Where: Louisville. 

What: South Oldham High School senior soccer player Will Vitalis heads the local list of all-state players selected by the state soccer coaches association.

Vitalis, who was voted Mr. Soccer two weeks ago, was selected to the first team.

Voted to the second team were SOHS Brycen Howard and Oldham County High School’s Chase Bryant. SOHS’ John Cantrell and North Oldham High School’s Brandon Causey were voted honorable mention.

For the girls, SOHS’ Marissa Williams and NOHS’ Meghan Klyczek were voted to the second team.

SOHS’ Shelby Thompson, OCHS’ Lauren Boyd and NOHS’ Devan Costelle were voted to the honorable mention team. 

 

VOLLEYBALL

Moyer, Volz selected to all-state team

When: Nov. 4. 

Where: Louisville. 

What: Oldham County High School’s Kelly Moyer and North Oldham’s Chelsea Volz have been named all-state in

volleyball.

Moyer, a senior, was named to the second team after leading the Lady Colonels to the regional title and a win in the state tourney. She was named the Eighth Region Player of the Year for the second year in a row this season.

Volz, a senior, was named to the honorable mention team after leading the Lady Mustangs to the district title and a No. 14 ranking in the state during the regular season.

LACROSSE

SOHS program hosting parent meeting

When: Dec. 1. 

Where: South Oldham High School. 

What: The South Oldham High School lacrosse team is hosting a new player/parent meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.

RECREATION

OCMS hosting basketball clinic

When: Saturday. 

Where: Oldham County Middle School. 

What: The Oldham County Middle School girls’ basketball program will host a skills clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The clinic is free.

Parks hosting holiday walk

When: Dec. 12. 

Where: Wendell Moore Park, Buckner. 

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a two-mile holiday walk at 9 a.m. Dec. 12 at Wendell Moore Park.

Proceeds from the walk will benefit the Oldham County Teddy Bear Tree, which supplies toys to needy children for Christmas.

The cost is $5 or a new, unwrapped toy. Registration forms are available at the John W. Black Community Center or online at oldhamcounty.net.

Parks offering adult volleyball

When: Registration accepted through Jan. 19. 

Where: Oldham County Middle School. 

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its adult men and coed volleyball leagues.

The registration deadline is Jan. 19. League play starts Jan. 25 at Oldham County Middle School. The league fee is $140 and includes a seven-game schedule and single elimination tournament.

Parks offering men’s basketball league

When: Registration accepted through Jan. 5. 

Where: Tri-County Community Action Agency, La Grange. 

What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its men’s 55-and-over 3-on-3 basketball league. The league provides a 10-game schedule starting Jan. 14. The cost is $45 per team or $15 per individual. Registration forms are available at oldhamcounty.net.

Thoroughbreds set challenge dates

When: Jan. 2. 

Where: Oldham County YMCA indoor sports arena, Buckner. 

What: The Oldham County Thoroughbreds select soccer club will host its three-on-three challenge tourney Jan. 2 to 3.

Divisions are offered in Under-8 to Under-18 and there is an adult division this year for the first time.
