OCYFL offering last chance to register

When: Saturday.

Where: OCYFL complex, Wendell Moore Park, Buckner.

What: The Oldham County Youth Football League is offering a last chance to register for the upcoming fall season. The cost for football is $110.

The cost for cheerleading is $45 plus uniform. Anyone registered after Saturday will be charged a $25 late fee.

Kline sweeps Joe Creason titles

When: Thursday.

Where: Louisville Tennis Center.

What: Fresh off her first Kentucky high school singles tennis title, North Oldham’s Lauren Kline swept the singles and doubles titles at the Joe Creason Tennis Invitational in Louisville.

Kline won the Girls 18 singles title defeating Emily Mallory of Louisville 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Kline teamed with Mallory to defeated Hannah English and McCall Hedrick of Louisville 6-0, 6-0.

Kline will be a senior at NOHS this fall.


Houchens earns national honors

When: Thursday.

Where: South Oldham High School.

What: South Oldham High School junior Ryan Houchens has been named to the National High School Coaches Association All-Academic team for the past school year.

Houchens was the state wrestling runner-up at 189-pounds with a 48-3 record.

He is a two-time medalist at the state wrestling meet and two-time regional champion. He has a career record of 162-34.

Houchens was also an all-dictrict offensive lineman for the SOHS football team.

He has a 3.72 grade-point average and scored a 30 on the ACT.


Oldham Aces vs. Ballard

Score: 11-0 Aces.

When: Friday.

Where: Ballard High School.

Key players: The Aces’ Preston Theiss, Jordan Ellis and Matt Dearmond.

Game highlights: The Aces rolled over Ballard thanks to a pair of doubles each from Preston Theiss and Jordan Ellis and some solid pitching from Jason Sterrett.

Sterrett threw the five-inning shutout giving up just one hit against six strikeouts.

Theiss and Ellis each drove in three runs. Matt Dearmond had a hit and a pair of RBIs for the Aces.

Oldham Aces vs. Chiefs

Score: 10-4 Chiefs.

When: Saturday.

Where: Bellarmine University.

Key players: The Aces’ Jacob Wiese and Adam Pontrich.

Game highlights: The Chiefs struck five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break this one wide open.

The Aces managed just five hits led by a two-run double from Adam Pontrich. Jacob Wiese had a pair of hits for the Aces.

Oldham Aces vs. Sultans

Score: 3-2 Sultans.

When: Saturday.

Where: Bellarmine University.

Key players: The Aces’ Mike Davis, Jason Sterrett and Daniel Pulliam.

Game highlights: The Sultans got the win with a pair of doubles in the sixth inning.

The Aces scored in the bottom of the first when Mike Davis led off with a double and scored on Daniel Pulliam’s double.

They scored again in the third inning when Davis walked and Clayton Jones singled.

Jordan Ellis delivered with a two-out double to score Davis. Pulliam went the distance for the Aces scattering seven hits against four strikeouts and no walks.


Schools offering free sports physicals Saturday

When: Saturday.

Where: Baptist Hospital Northeast, La Grange.

What: All Oldham County high schools are offering free sports physicals to athletes for the upcoming school year at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

These will be the only free physicals offered this summer. All athletes must have a completed physical exam form before they will allowed to participate or tryout for any fall sport per Kentucky High School Athletic Association rules.


South Oldham seeks head softball coach

When: Immediately.

Where: South Oldham High School.

What: South Oldham High School is seeking a head girls softball coach for next season. For information, call SOHS athletic director Mitch Irvin at 241-6681.

North Oldham seeks assistant soccer coach

When: Immediately.

Where: North Oldham High School.

What: North Oldham High School is seeking an assistant boys’ soccer coach. For information, call NOHS athletic director Tom Clemons at 228-0158.


North Oldham boosters hosting LaMaster scramble

When: Aug. 4.

Where: Glen Oaks Country Club, Prospect.

What: The North Oldham High School athletic boosters are hosting the Claude H. LaMaster Memorial Golf Scramble at 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at Glen Oaks Country Club.

The cost is $100 per person and includes cart rental and lunch. There will be prizes for the first-, second- and third-place teams and for the longest drive and closest to the hole. There will also be a hole-in-one contest for a new car. The deadline for entry is July 20. George Karpin ALS Benefit scramble set

When: Saturday.

Where: Eagle Creek Golf Course, La Grange.

What: The George Karpin Family ALS Benefit will start at noon Saturday at Eagle Creek Golf Course in La Grange. The golf scramble will help fund research benefit the family of George Karpin, a La Grange man who has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Cost is $80 per person. The entry fee includes a welcome gift, a free golf club, a round of golf with cart, beverages on-course and a picnic dinner.

There is a $10,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one, plus other contests. A raffle is planned for tickets to a practice round of the Ryder Cup. To register, call 222-7927.

Lady Colonels hosting golf scramble

Where: Oldham County Country Club.
