Oldham County holding Ryder raffle

When: Right now.

Where: Oldham County High School and Dizzy Dave’s East, La Grange.

What: The Oldham County High School booster club is holding a Ryder Cup ticket raffle.

Chances are $20 and only 600 will be sold. The winner will receive two season tickets to the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club that allow access to all six days of the Ryder Cup and include shuttle service to the event.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at Dizzy Dave’s East in La Grange or by calling 222-0645.


Irvin receives award of merit

When: Tuesday.

Where: South Oldham High School.

What: South Oldham High School athletic director Mitch Irvin has been awarded the 2008 State Award of Merit by the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association.

The presentation will be made at the state conference for athletic administrators at the University of Louisville Papa John’s stadium on May 8.

Irvin has been the AD at SOHS for 12 years and prior to that served as the school’s tennis coach. He has also been a member of both the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association for eleven years and has been active at both levels. He currently serves the KHSADA as the membership chair and co-chair of the conference golf tournament.

Track & Field

Oldham County holding Sundown meet

When: Thursday, today.

Where: Oldham County High School.

What: Oldham County High School is holding the Sundown Invitational track and field meet today, Thursday at Bell Field.

Field events will start at 4:30 p.m. and at 5 p.m. the running events will start.


South Oldham vs. Lloyd Memorial

Score: 7-6 South Oldham.

When: Saturday.

Where: Woodford County High School.

Key players: South Oldham’s Mike Davis, Jordan Ellis and Steven Nuttle. Lloyd’s Matt Moore and Dan Pittman.

Game highlights: The Dragons came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win this one.

SOHS’ runs came when Daniel Pulliam reached second on an error and went to third on Tommy Thompson’s sacrifice fly.

Mike Davis walked and Jordan Ellis scored both with a triple to left.

Ellis scored the game-winning run when Alex Sharrard reached on an infield error.

Pulliam threw the first five innings for SOHS before Derek Nichter came in to throw the final two innings.

Ellis drove in two for SOHS and Steven Nuttle had an RBI and two hits for SOHS including a double.

South Oldham vs. Woodford County

Score: 5-4 Woodford County.

When: Saturday.

Where: Woodford County High School.

Key players: South Oldham’s Mike Davis, Roy Francis and Derek Nichter.

Game highlights: The Dragons had the tables turned on them in this one losing when Woodford scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh.

With the scored tied at four, Woodford scored the final run on a leadoff walk followed by a hit batter. Ray Goins drove in the run with a single to left center.

The inning came after the Dragons had come back to tie the game with three runs in the top of the sixth.

The inning started with a walk to Tommy Thompson followed by a single from Mike Davis. Thompson scored when Jordan Ellis reached on an error.

Alex Sharrard reached on a fielder’s choice and Davis scored when Roy Francis grounded out to short.

The final run scored on a triple from Derek Nichter.

South Oldham vs. Anderson County

Score: 8-2 Anderson County.

When: Saturday.

Where: Woodford County High School.

Key players: South Oldham’s Alex Sharrard and Kyle Dunn. Anderson County’s Jacob Russell and Shane Mink.

Game highlights: Regional foe Anderson County broke this one open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The key plays were three SOHS fielding errors and an RBI single from Micah Buford.

The Dragons got an RBI sacrifice from Mike Davis and an RBI single from Alex Sharrard. Kyle Dunn had a double.
