South Oldham’s Lauren Jones and Amber Conniff.Game highlights: CAL dominated the fourth quarter outscoring the Lady Dragons 23-9 to take the come-from-behind win. Sophomore guard Antonita Slaughter hit three three-pointers to lead the Lady Centurions with 18 points. CAL also got a pair of threes and 12 points from Claire Buchanan and 12 from Hannah Bowman and eight points and eight assists from All-Seventh Region senior guard Beth Willoughby. SOHS’ Lauren Jones hit three three-pointers and led all scorers with 23 points. Jones was the only Lady Dragon in double figures. Game highlights: Guards Ellen Ford and Audri Beaudrie led a pressure packed, full court Lady Colonels’ press that took Trimble County out of the game early in this district seding match. Ford had six steals while Beaudrie had five as the Lady Colonels forced 15 Trimble turnovers in the first half to build a 32-18 lead. Ford and Beaudrie both had five steals each in the half “They were feeding off each other and that was nice to see,” OCHS coach Jamie Dumstorf said. “One steals it and the other breaks to the basket. After taking a 12-10 lead into the second period, OCHS held the Bears to just two second quarter points to build a lead they would never lose. Guards Eric Dunlap and Grant Ruble led the way with 11 and 10 points respectively. Forward Billie Payne had eight points to go with 15 rebounds. Craig Edwards led the Bears with 10 points and was Spencer County’s only double-figure scorer. FALL SPORTSSimpsons have a championship yearWhen: This fall.Where: David Lipscomb High School, Nashville, Tenn.What: South Oldham High School boy’s assistant basketball coach Bobby Simpson is one of the proudest grandfathers around these days as his two grandsons, Jordan and Caleb, were both members of state championship teams in Tennessee this fall. They are the sons of Joe and Kim Simpson and attend David Lipscomb High School in Tennessee. Jordan, a senior, helped his golf team win the state title this year by 10 strokes over the second place team. Caleb, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound junior, was the starting quarterback on a 14-1 football team that won the 3A state title over Fulton 32-24. On the year, he completed 50 of 94 passes for 1,050 yards with 10 touchdowns against just three interceptions. He also had three rushing touchdowns.
