The University of Evansville is proud to announce that North Oldham High School alum Brandon Causey was honored at the Heritage Federal Credit Union Student-Athlete Academic Honors Breakfast on Sept. 27 in UE’s Eykamp Hall.

At the event, the University of Evansville was announced as the recipient of the 2011-12 Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award, given to the school whose student-athletes post the highest cumulative GPA.

Causey is majoring in mechanical engineering and participates in men’s soccer.

“This is an extraordinary honor for the University of Evansville, our athletic department, but most importantly the student-athletes such as Brandon Causey,” UE Athletics Director John Stanley said. “We are proud of the work that each and every one of them does on a daily basis in the classroom and on the field. This award proves that student-athletes at the University of Evansville are top-notch people, students, and athletes.”

Evansville’s 13 MVC sports and 214 student-athletes combined to post a grade point average of 3.284 for the 2011-12 academic year.

In spring 2012, 78.9 percent of UE’s student-athletes (169 out of 214) amassed a GPA of 3.0 or better while 45.3 percent (97 of 214) accumulated a GPA of 3.5 or higher in the spring semester.

During that semester, 9.8 percent of the Aces’ student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Many players also garnered dean’s list honors — 118 made the dean’s list at least once last season while 61 did so for both semesters.

“This award speaks well to Evansville: the faculty, the student-athletes, and coaches. It is a tremendous achievement when you consider the quality of our schools across the board,” MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin said. “This was a tremendously uplifting event to see. To see the faculty, student-athletes, and staff turnout was great. What an image it was to have all of those student-athletes up there on stage. It is what we’re about in the Missouri Valley.”

The MVC All-Academic Award is in its 10th year and is awarded to the school whose student-athletes combine for the highest GPA.
