Melissa Durham was the female champion of the Firecracker 5K Saturday morning in Westport. Durham finished the race in 21:08.8. Roberta Meyer was second, finishing in 23:22.8. On the men’s side, Louisville’s Jarred Randall was first, finishing in 19:14.3. Rob Staley, also of Louisville, was second with a time of 19:37.2.
Many of the runners Saturday were graduates of Ready, Set, Run, a 12-week program designed to teach kids how to run a 5K while also teaching life lessons. The program was administered by Oldham County Parks and Rec through the National Alliance for Youth Sports. Kneeling in the front row are Abigail Fadel, Kendall Lutgen and Lily Wright.
