FFA chapter participates in East Region Envirothon

Members of the Oldham County FFA Chapter recently participated at Morehead State University in the East Region Envirothon contest and qualified as one of 10 teams across the state for the Kentucky Enviorthon Finals in Jabez in May.Envirothon is a five-person team event for high school students sponsored by the Kentucky Division of Conservation and conducted by various government agencies associated with forestry, water quality, soils and wildlife.High school teams compete in the areas of forestry, water quality, soils, wildlife enhancement and a current conservation topic. This year’s current topic was about impacts of recreational activities on natural resources. The Oldham County FFA Chapter was the state winner in 2007 and participated in the international event in Geneva, N.Y.This year’s state winner will compete at the international event in Flagstaff, Ariz., in July. Oldham County FFA team members this year were Corey Hatfield, Erin Powell, Brandy Pearson, Josh Gilpin, Thomas Reynolds, Sara Smith, Aaron Watts, Lizzie Moser and Tricia Smith.The local team is sponsored by the Oldham County Conservation District.
