Dreaming of state: local dance and cheer squads compete in regional competitions for a shot at state

With a season’s worth of work under their belt, five local dance and cheerleading squads took to the floor in regional competition Jan. 19 in hopes of securing a spot in their respective state tournaments.
The cheerleaders, competing at Shelby County High School, saw two county teams walk away winners as the South Oldham girls captured the top spot in the large division and North Oldham earned a win in the super large division.
The top two teams earn invites to the state tournament Saturday at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
The Oldham County JV team earned second place in the medium division.
In the regional dance competition at Oldham County High School Jan. 19, several local schools earned wins as well as the Oldham County varsity squad picked up wins in both the small jazz and hip hop divisions and North Oldham recorded wins in the large open and hip hop divisions.
On the middle school level, North Oldham also won the large open division, while OC captured the medium hip hop and jazz divisions.
The state dance competition will take place Feb. 23 in Frankfort.
