BUCKNER – Defense and team ball made a comeback for the Oldham County Colonels helping them rout Carroll County 76-51 Friday. “We had a good effort,” OCHS coach Gary Forrest said. “The kids had good defensive intensity and that generated some points for us.” The Colonels, 10-12, got a big game from junior guard Eric Dunlap. Directing the Colonels offense, the 5-foot-10 junior scored on a variety of his patented drives and displayed a deadly mid-range jumper to lead all scorers with 26 points. Dunlap also had a pair of long three-pointers in his arsenal. Dunlap scored 12 of the Colonels’ last 17 points of the first half to help OCHS break the game open and build a 38-21 halftime lead. OCHS methodically built a 21-11 lead midway through the second period when Dunlap went on a quick tear.He scored off a turnover, followed that with a 15-footer off the right wing, a 17-footer off the left wing and a pull-up 15-footer in the lane to put the Colonels up 30-13. Carroll County’s Casey Cable, who led the Panthers with 21 points, tried to rally his team with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer, but OCHS sophomore Brandon Cook scored on a six-foot leaner in the lane and Dunalp added two more baskets on a drive along the baseline and a floater in the lane. Brandon Mason added two free throws for the Colonels’ final points of the half. “That’s the kind of game we need Eric to play where he is moving forward all the time,” Forrest said. “He shot the ball really well.” In addition to Dunlap’s points, the Colonels got nine points from Cook who continues to improve on both ends of the floor after moving into the starting lineup two weeks ago and is bringing some stability to the backcourt. “I thought Brandon had a really nice game with nine points,” Forrest said. “He played nice defense too which is something we really need out there.”OCHS – 16 22 21 17 76 – Eric Dunlap 26, Billie Payne 5, Matt Moore 8, Matt Day 8, Matt Hogue 4, Brandon Mason 6, Mike Gasser 4, Aaron Sullivan 6, Brandon Cook 9, 76.CARROLL COUNTY - 8 13 15 15 51 – Allen 6, Proctor 1, Cable 21, Welch 8, Yager 4, Boles 2, Hendrick 6, Craig 3, 51.
