A full day of family-friendly entertainment is planned Sept. 8 for the Crestwood Festival.
The Maples, a sprawling property between Ky. 22 and Ky. 146 near Dairy Queen in Crestwood, will bustle with vendor booths, games and live performances, including featured bands Hog Operation and The Monarchs.
High-flying pancakes will kick off the festival as John Young brings his Chris Cakes equipment to serve breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes Chris Cakes pancakes, sausage, coffee and Tang for $5.
Festival activities begin at 10 a.m. Admission is free, although a $5 donation for on-site parking is requested.
Teams from the South Oldham Little League will be recognized with a parade and ceremony to celebrate their seasons, including a state championship title by the boys’ senior league team.
Children’s activities will abound at this year’s festival, including a children’s train, inflatables, balloon sculptures and the Bubble Truck.
Nearly all of the festival’s activities are free — there are $1 fees for the children’s train ride and dunking tank.
History buffs will enjoy an antique iron show, Civil War encampments, restored antique military equipment and historic and present-day fire engines.
There will also be new car displays, health screenings and local vendors.
A pet park and animal blessing is a new addition to this year’s event.
Volunteers from St. James Episcopal Church in Pewee Valley will host the pet activities.
The pet blessing is a St. James’ tradition.
A rest tent will be available for senior citizens.
Food and beverages will be on sale throughout the day.
Entertainment includes performances by Hog Operation, The Monarchs, the Oldham County Singers and other local acts.
Six Guns Entertainment will perform three Wild West reenactment shows.
The 2012 event includes a 50/50 raffle sponsored by the South Oldham Lions Club with a possible prize of $5,000.
Tickets are $10 per chance and are available in advance from Lions Club members or on-site at the festival. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold.
Lions Club members will also have pull-tab games for sale.
The 2012 Crestwood Festival is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at The Maples in Crestwood.
